The new evergreen Googlebot

Google announced that Googlebot now runs the latest Chromium rendering engine (74 at the time of the post) when rendering pages for Search. Moving forward, Googlebot will regularly update its rendering engine to ensure support for latest web platform features. Compared to the previous version, Googlebot now supports 1000+ new features, like: ES6 and newer JavaScript features, IntersectionObserver for lazy-loading, and Web Components v1 APIs.

Google Search Console New Speed Report

At Google I/O they demonstrated a new report within Google Search Console named the Speed Report. It is currently in beta or experimental mode but they showed some screen shots of it in action. This report is powered off of CrUX data, it gives you an aggregated view over your site’s field metrics where you can drive down into specific issues and see specific examples.

New in structured data: FAQ and How-to

At Google I/O, Google announced support for new structured data for FAQ and How-to markup. There is new structured markup to bring these rich search results to life. Google added a new How-to enhancement report in Search Console that shows you your errors, warnings and valid items for pages with HowTo structured data. Google also announced new search results for FAQs in search and Google Assistant.
